Gt. Yarmouth suspension bridge disaster memorial

In 2013, following a fundraising campaign from the residents of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, Burlingham Memorial Solutions were asked to produce a large book style memorial to commemorate the victims of a local disaster.

On May 2, 1845 crowds had assembled onto a suspension bridge over the River Bure to watch a clown being pulled along by four geese in an advertising stunt.

The bridge collapsed causing 79 people to be killed including almost 60 young children.

The polished black granite memorial measured 60ins wide x 40ins high.

The left hand side of the memorial was devoted entirely to the memory of the deceased, with the 79 names inscribed. The right hand side depicted illustrations of the event, all hand etched by our own expert craftsmen.

The memorial was unveiled in the Autumn of 2013.
